Venomous Concept – Retroactive Abortion – Review

Venomous Concept

Retroactive Abortion (Ipecac)
by Ari M. Joffe

Wow!!! Venomous Concept, where have you been all my life? The answer is: Working “day jobs” playing in some of the heaviest, best bands on the planet. This is the side project of ex-Brutal Truth vocalist Kevin Sharp, King Buzzo Osbourne (guitar) from Melvins and Fantômas, and Shane Embury (bass) and Danny Herrera (drums) from Napalm Death (and, in the case of Shane, Brujeria, but shhh… that’s a secret).

That’s really all that needs to be said. With that kind of pedigree, how could this not sound unbelievable?

OK, OK. You want specifics. I see… Well, the fellas wanted to play some old school, thrash metal/hardcore punk type shit. So, they got together, wrote some extremely badass tunes, and recorded 16 of ’em in five days. It’s all here: Blast beats, lightning-speed riffs, and the irate ramblings of a vocalist who’s been fucked over one too many times, and smoked way too many cigarettes. Venomous Concept execute their furious minute and a half jams with the pin-point accuracy of veteran headbangers who know this music in and out, up and down, front to back, like it’s second nature for them to rock this hard. It’s fucking disgusting!

Favorites: “I Said it Before,” “Run Around,” and “Life’s Fine.” But, it’s all awesome. What are you doing still reading this, dude? Go fuckin’ buy this! Now!
