King Of The Hill is a hilarious, warm-hearted cartoon series created by Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis and Butthead) and Greg Daniels (The Simpsons). The stories revolve around Arlen, Texas’ own Hank Hill, an utterly square, blue collar propane salesman who supports his family, works on his pick-up truck, mows his lawn, and drinks a few beers in the alley. His migraine headaches are induced by: Peggy, his “not nearly as clever as she thinks she is” wife; their pudgy, eccentric son Bobby; and their buxom and dumb as they come niece, Luanne. Along for the ride are Hank’s drinkin’ buddies Bill, Dale, and Boomhauer, all of whom have a myriad of problems that Hank ends up having to sort out. Numerous six-packs of Alamo beer are consumed, crack is used as fishing bait, fat kids are terrorized by donut-heaving delinquents, and Hank goes blind for a bit after accidentally witnessing his elderly mother getting it on with her new boyfriend.

Behind Beavis and Butthead‘s stupid toilet humor was a really dark world-view. The protagonists were two vile morons who liked to burn things. The “normal” folks in Highland were all slobs for these two punks to terrorize. A happy ending? Beavis and Butthead eat nachos watching Stuart’s dad carted away in an ambulance with a cordless phone up his ass!

The vibe is way less jaded in the King Of The Hill universe. Things usually work out, to some degree. A little sappy sometimes, yeah, but not every cartoon has to feature a talking piece of shit to be funny, I’ll tell you what.
