From the Land of Volcanoes (The Control Group)

Lucia, the siren, vixen, and most recently chanteuse, had been best known as the kick-ass gal on stage with the KMFDM guys. Soon, she might be remembered for more than that. Prior to her joining KMFDM, she was a member of the dark cybernetic rock group Drill, who once toured with Marilyn Manson.

luciaphotoAfter hearing her belt out some of the more testosterone-driven KMFDM lyrics, it may come as a surprise that her new album, From the Land of Volcanoes, is a tasty dish of intimate and unadulterated modern pop produced by Ian Stanley. Ian Stanley is, of course, the legendary producer of artists such as Tori Amos, The Pretenders, Human League, A-Ha, and Sisters of Mercy, as well as a performer with Tears For Fears and Indigo Girls. From the Land of Volcanoes also features contributions by Siouxsie & The Banshees comrade John Klein, and long-time Madonna collaborator Patrick Leonard.

Strongest tracks include “So Clever,” “Fear,” “Feels Like Summer,” “What You Become” (co-written by Sascha Konietzko), and “Monkey Puzzle Tree” (co-written by John Klein).

A great debut album. I hope there are a couple more of these albums in her.
