Of Malice and the Magnum Heart (Ferret)

It always sucks when bands disband when things are finally going well, and when news circulated that up-and-comers 7 Angels 7 Plagues decided to break up, fans were upset. From the ashes of that band came Misery Signals. Their six-song debut EP (produced by Devin Townsend) is a stunning piece of work, a voluptuous and harmonious drive of thrashing intensity, melodic and steadfast hardcore goodness. Some argue that Townsend overproduced the album – it could’ve had a more live, rawer flare – but the masterful crafting he brings to their sound makes this hardcore/metal album shine a bit brighter.
