KMFDM – Adios – Review

KMFDM

Adios (TVT)
by Scott Hefflon

KMFDM‘s 10th and final album, Adios, is a fine farewell to a band that created and defined a style called “hard electronic dance music.” Like I need to tell you that. With a few handfuls of timeless dance hits (“Juke Joint Jezebel” and “Drug Against War” being my two faves, but there’re plenty to choose from), KMFDM will go down in history, regardless of whether Adios is any good or not. Luckily it’s a solid album from start to finish. That is to say there are no songs that scream out “timeless classic,” but you can listen to the entire album without skipping tracks cuz they suck.

The “band” is pretty much Sascha, but who really cares? And Tim Skold seems to’ve co-produced, co-written, and co-performed on practically every track, but again, like that’s really a bad thing. And with additional vocals from Nina Hagen, Ogre, and Bill Rieflin, Adios not only has all the element of KMFDM that matter, they have additional nuances that’re just nice to have. Truthfully, while none of the songs stink of a single, the majority of the songs have the feel of a song you can enjoy listening to and dance to, and that’s worth a lot.
