De/Vision – Subkutan – Review

Subkutan (Dancing Ferret)
by Scott Hefflon

Since 1988, De/Vision has become one of the best-known modern synthpop bands, with smooth vocals, crisp production, and a number of club and radio hits. With releases on WEA and assorted independent labels, they’ve found a home on Dancing Ferret, an obvious place for quality synthpop such as this. Not as frantic as many, with less bells and whistle to over-compensate for a simple melody. Like classic Depeche Mode, it’s dark and glorious, thoughtful and catchy without having to be overtly showy.
