Hazardous Mutation (Earache)
by Tim Den

I thought this was an obscure reissue when I first put it on. I mean, shit, look at the album cover! I’m willing to bet Ed Repka was behind the brushes for it, which automatically means that Municipal Waste are the real fucking deal.

Imagine How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can’t Even Smile Today mixed with Crossover and Spreading the Disease, and you’ve got Hazardous Mutation. And I don’t mean just the aesthetics: These guys know how to write classic thrash riffs that could’ve beaten Bonded by Blood had they come out at the same time. Grinding the E and then pinning down random (yet brilliantly random in that trademark ’80s thrash way) frets on the A as if performing exquisite acupuncture on brutality, songs such as “Unleash the Bastards” and “The Thrashin’ of the Christ” would make any old schooler proud. No kidding, I felt like I was in 7th grade, discovering metal for the first time all over again. Municipal Waste understand the language, purity, and devotion of the genre. One of the best thrash releases in years!
