The Lights Went Up (Scenery)
by Scott Hefflon

Yeah, I dunno… Soundtrack music, light and airy indie rock you can snap your fingers to with breathy female vocals. Guest performances by folks who learned their craft in Faith No More, Steel Pole Bathtub, Rogue Wave, Slackjaw, Assemble Head, and The Enablers. There are moments of dead air, light music, lush orchestration, and, like, blooping noises and clicking sounds. The “songs” sound great, but I don’t think it’s meant to be a collection of pop numbers. And bloopy noises create a nice mood, but when punctuated by the pop gems, the mood is shattered. So yeah, lot of ideas, most of ’em damn fine, but not a very listenable album from end to end.
