The Mooney Suzuki – The Maximum Black EP – Review

The Maximum Black EP (V2)
by Scott Hefflon

Outta print self-released EP from 1999, six raw “classic” gems remastered, and five unreleased nuggets from the same sessions. Surely not my fave fuzzy garage unit (way too hip and well-pressed, and I like my rock dirty and destructive, or at least frantic and not so calculated), and any NYC hipster oughtta dig into Bad Afro’s roster and realize what posers they are, but ya can’t teach those trendies anything, can ya? Don’t hate the band cuz of their fans, they say, so I’ll just hate The Mooney Suzuki cuz, at least on this EP, they’re as crucial to the music continuum as some shitty unsigned opening band I intentionally show up too late to have to grind my teeth through.
