I love Metalocalypse as much as any metalhead, but the animated soap opera of a gloriously dumb-ass metal band doesn’t make the actual songs any better. Sure, if your recall “ha ha, this is when that guy’s eyes bled,” that makes a particular song less generic, but, on the whole, these songs don’t stand on their own. Which is to say, they’re a fine accompaniment to the show, but they themselves are not strong enough to stand alone. Well-played and classic metal, sure, but without the context of the show, absolutely dismissable.
