Sirens of the Apocalypse
by Scott Hefflon

This is producing legend Martin Bisi‘s sixth release, and my first to hear. Two EPs and two full-lengths on New Alliance/SST (1988-1996), and the two recent ones are self-released. His stuff has a classic/dated/timeless NYC feel, but seeing as he’s from Brooklyn and recorded NYC greats, that’s no shock. This isn’t my kinda stuff, so aside from “hey, that’s different” cuz it sounds more like VU outtakes than Hinder is as close as I’ll get in under 200 words.

Lemme just rattle off a handfulla the bands he’s produced, and those in the know will track it down and make their own decision: Material, John Zorn, Brian Eno, Bill Laswell, Herbie Handcock, Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, Foetus, Lydia Lunch/Thurston Moore, White Zombie, Swans, Cop Shoot Cop, Boss Hog, Unsane, Helmet, Alice Donut, Ultra Bide, and The Dresden Dolls.
