Same label as Blind Melon, Rick Springfield, Tommy Lee, and other bands I can’t bring myself to name. But hey, a band’s gotta be on a label, unless they wanna be yet another “MySpace Band.” Guess Geffen isn’t what it once was. Anyhoo, The Pink Spiders are easy-breezy, catchy as a cold, and surely the fave of teenage girls from coast to coast. They have quotes from Spin/Rolling Stone/Entertainment Weekly to Punk Planet and MRR (thought Maximum Rock N Roll couldn’t review major label releases? Then again, I thought they went outta business long ago), and that’s a nice touch. Loved by the shitty mainstream and still enjoyed by the snobbish underground: That’s rare, and that’s something to be proud of.

I’ll follow, for a change. A damn catchy band. Fun, clever lyrics, trendy garage powerpop, yet not genre-hopping wanna-bes, these guys have a background in Cheap Trick, Bay City Rollers, and The Knack, but still like to rock out to the White Stripes and dance in their spandex to Squeeze. This band’ll make you bounce around like fool, sing into a hairbrush, and (hopefully) Google any band namedropped in this or any other review to find great power pop bands that paved the way for this, the latest in a long line of great bands.
