Diosado (Saustex)
by Scott Hefflon

This San Antonio band’s swansong (or rebirth?) is all over the map, but understandably so, seeing as it’s a cobbling together of the last tracks recorded before drummer Manny Castillo lost his fight to lung cancer, and archival studio recordings. As the bio notes, there’s shoegaze and alt-country here, plus guitar jangle, stoner rock thud and wail, and assorted tinkerings. Some good tunes, clear production, and perhaps a real find for some. Not my fave genre cuz I can’t get passed the alt-yelp. Admittedly, this is grown-up alt-country yelping, not emo/pussy whiny yelp, but I’m a fan of solid rock’n’roll with a powerhouse singer.
