Behold the Devastation
by Scott Hefflon

This band is unsigned?!? Seeing as Unleash the Archers smoke a lot of signed bands, it’s probably a matter of getting their feet wet, seeing as this the band’s debut full-length. Plus, they’re Canadian. But they were smart enough to pay for some killer production, and while most are sure to focus on signer Brittany Hayes pipes (and other things, yeah, she’s a looker, but I like the fact that they don’t plaster her all over the place), the band is tight as shit. Maybe tighter. But yeah, the girl can freakin’ sing! They have a thing for “the this and the that” song titles, many of the titles sound black metal, the cover art looks death metal, and the tunes combine classic heavy metal with the compressed Swedish death metal “top this, fucker!” technicality I hope this era is remembered for, not emo (indie, metal and punk, the laziness of emo has infected all genres), not the pitch-adjusted pseudo-r&b of bling-obsessed fadsters. Ahem. So yeah, a successful mix of great genres of metal, all played expertly and with real heart, fronted by a powerful female vocalist we’re sure to hear more of in the future.
