I still don’t understand exactly what makes these Michigan death metallers resonate with so many listeners (their albums regularly chart in the Billboard Top 50) versus many other like-minded bands, but since there’s a track on their new album that’s an Evil Dead homage, the picture’s getting clearer. “Into the Everblack” ain’t that track, but it’s a chunky, reliable slab of death metal with a dark edge. Coupled with the particularly sinister album art, it’s enough to send you scurrying under the covers.
