Formed in Boston in 1996, Dropkick Murphys started in the basement of a barbershop in Quincy, Mass. The Celtic punk band signed to Hellcat Records in 1998 and went on to release a slew of crucial punk albums. Over the course of seven studio albums the band has sold more than four million records and sell out venues on every continent. They’ve also become true hometown heroes, playing the Boston Pops’ annual 4th of July concert in front of over 250,000, and updating the turn-of-the-century Red Sox fight song “Tessie,” which became the theme song for the first Red Sox World Series win in 86 years in ’04. On their own label Born & Bred Records since 2007, Dropkick Murphys are truly at home wherever they go, whether it’s a punk club in Rome, raising hell at the top of a European festival bill, or onstage with the finest classical musicians in the world.
In 2010, their single “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” became the soundtrack to the climax of that Martin Scorsese Academy Award-winning film “The Departed” and quickly went platinum. DKM’s 2011 concept record “Going Out in Style” featured guest vocals from Bruce Springsteen and debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top 200. Their latest album, SIGNED and SEALED in BLOOD returned the band to their rough ‘n tumble Celtic punk roots and spawned the first-ever Christmas song to make the Modern Rock radio chart in the US. Every second of the new album is evidence of one thing: Dropkick Murphys aren’t just loud and brash, they’re at the top of their game as songwriters.
