Old Skars and Upstarts – Review

Old Skars and Upstarts

(Alive/Total Energy)
by Jon Sarre

It’s a punk rock party record with, as the title implies, favorite oldsters and young bucks (who’s who depends on yer perception, I guess, but bands from JFA to Dropkick Murphys are here) doin’ choice tracks (near thirty in all), for no other reason than someone thought it was a good idea. You get good shit from the likes of Rancid, D Generation, Electric Frankenstein, the Crowd, Texas Terri and the Stiff Ones, the Chumps, Jakkpot, the Stitches, U.S. Bombs, Exploding Fuck Dolls, the Upsets, the Spasms, Smog Town, the Lowdowns, the Bristles, Static 99, the Ducky Boys and the aforementioned Murphys and Jodie Foster’s Army. There’s more too, and the names that’ve already been dropped oughtta fill in the “sounds like what” blanks so let’s not even get into it, shall we? Hey, buyin’ this is sure gonna be easier than makin’ a mix tape the next time you get evicted. Just don’t forget to invite all yer friends with cro-bars.
