Dream Theater has always been anything but predictable, a quality that is at times exciting as they explore adventurous new sounds and at times frustrating when they push their progressive/weird tendencies beyond the comprehension of human ears. So it’s great to report that “Along for the Ride” from their 2013 self-titled record (and second with new drummer Mike Mangini) is along the lines of their classic early work. That means it’s a little closer to predictable, but if you’ve been on the long, crazy journey with these guys, a little comfort food is a welcome treat.
