Bad Nerves

“You’ve Got the Nerve” from the UK’s Bad Nerves is reminiscent of a souped-up Supergrass or the Damned at their fastest. It’s a fistful of sped-up ’70s punk with raging guitars, singer Bobby Nerves’ high-pitched voice, and a chorus call-and-response section. When the guitars are blazing, things are chaotic and out of control, when they’re not, a bassline and drums bridge the tension between assaults. I knew I heard that voice somewhere. Turns out I had “Don’t Stop,” the first song on parent album Still Nervous, in an older playlist. The band released a slightly different mix as a single in 2021.
