“Out of Body” is the B-side to the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s A-side single “Makes Me Great.” Released on bandleader Anton Newcombe’s A Recordings, it features a mid-tempo pace and jangly guitars in the Byrds and Monkees tradition. Whatever you think of Newcombe, this one almost sounds like it was recorded in the ’60s. It’s psychedelic, and when you throw in former rival Dandy Warholian horns circa Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia, it makes for a tidy B-side which, for me, trumps side one.
