When 20 Summers Pass (Victory)

So… Shelter has gone back to old-school. Can’t complain: At least they’re not writing ska songs anymore. When 20 Summers Pass is Youth of Today’s raw positivity blended with Ray Cappo and Porcell’s infamous “untitled EP” project, catchy fast hardcore at its unfurnished heart. It reflects upon the achievements the duo has made (“In the Van Again”) and continues their religious devotion to Krishna, all with Ray singing/shouting in that trademarked “kid” vocal style of his. The use of melodies as experimented with on albums like Beyond Planet Earth sound more at home with this record’s Lifetime/Youth of Today feel (than the forced pop sound of the aforementioned record), as they make this rehashed old school thing a lot more bearable. Kudos to them for doing this as long as they have, and still doing it well.
