Independents – Stalker – Review

Independents

Stalker (Elevator Music)
by Jon Sarre

Eight songs of sorta queasy Deep South horror rock tempered with ska, faux soul, mindless Donovanisms and black humor. The singer does a good impression of a famous American rock’n’roller (when he isn’t tryin’ too hard), the buzzsaw guitar parts tip his hand in the direction of a certain ex-Misfit, rather than toward a hefty former Sun studio employee (tho’ the guy does let folks address him as Evil Presly -‘dem Southerners sure got funny names, don’t they?). I wondered how serious this was until I heard “I Am the Victim,” a beyond improbable genre splice which is part Op Ivy, part-Biohazard (or somethin’ stupid like that) and part-Four Seasons (sans falsetto). These guys deserve to be rock stars, no question ’bout that! Go! Go! Go!
