The Mount McKinleys – Stacked Up (and Get It!) – Review

The Mount McKinleys

Stacked Up (and Get It!) (Get Hip)
by Jon Sarre

First thing ya hear is “Think Twice”‘s Headcoats rip-off pulled off so well that yer immediately roused from the doldrums ya happen to be mired in and suddenly payin’ close attention. Next track, though, ya realize they pulled off one a those Rolling Stones tricks and stuck the strongest song out in front to give the listener a favorable impression right off the bat. Just for the record though, these Pittsburgh garage shockers, do noisy drowning man imitations on “Empire State Yeah,” and the Yankified Childish beat on “Numbered For the Bottom” would make even grumpy old Billy crack a smirk cuz he knows he stole it all, too (Ditto for “Miracle Mile,” damn near a rewrite of “Think Twice”). What floored me was the cover the Mount McKinleys chose to close the record with, the Count V’s “Peace of Mind” realized as psycho-Kink feedback & theremin freakout babble (which closely describes the V anyway). And, yeah, ending with a song as good as the one you opened with is a Stones trick, too.
