The Nitwitz – Dark Side of the Spoon – Review

The Nitwitz

Dark Side of the Spoon (Get Hip)
by Jon Sarre

These Dutch punk vet nobodies usedta be BGK before they were the Nitwitz and before they were BGK they were the Nitwitz (the rhythm section, I think, was different, tho’ I’m sorta confused). For some reason, it’s also important to note that they started off as teens in 1978, singing about beating up disco kids and now they call ravers “Fruit Cakes,” so the more things change, sooner or later, yer original frame of reference comes back, as far as frames go, this is a familiar punk rock model, only with slightly more wailing high-end guitar leads, a slightly less competent drummer, and the lyrics delivered in oddly accented English, which, I guess, is only natural seeing as they’re from Amsterdam and all. Supposedly everyone’s fave foreign rock’n’roll outfit of the moment, the Hellacopters, are big fans of these guys, so mebbe those Vikings’ll name drop the Nitwitz in every ‘zine from here to Luxembourg.
