Very Metal is just that. Fast and shitty-sounding, like the fourth-generation cassettes we all used to trade while falling off our skateboards in the ’80s.
Gravity Kills, specifically, is decent background music if you’re doing something else interesting. Produced by Martin Atkins, it’s got the authentic sound.
Germany’s Heaven Shall Burn sounds like a cross between Britain’s veteran grindcore act, Bolt Thrower, and the adventurous hardcore/noisecore of Shai Halud.
It’s nice to see Jon Spencer Blues Explosion rockin’ unhomogenized again, cuz their last couple records’ stylized missteps sorta brought ’em down a peg or two.
This is one heavy band. Fully-rounded groove to kick-ass action with plenty of big, whopping blues rock underpinnings, rhythmic propulsion and guitar sustain.
I like a lot of the ideas Lostprophets have, especially their fearlessness to experiment with all kinds of sounds and styles, but it doesn’t quite gel for me.
Pretty melodic, despite their propensity to slide into rappy/yappy arrangements, but none of the songs are interesting enough to make them really stand out.
