Very Metal is just that. Fast and shitty-sounding, like the fourth-generation cassette tapes we all used to trade while falling off our skateboards in the ’80s, filled with pummeling basslines and vocal punctuation like, Nuclear Assault. I mean that in both a good way and a ha-ha-remember-Nuclear-Assault? way. Punk glorifying metal and thrash is kinda cool, but why not go get NA’s ’86 classic Game Over, S.O.D.’s Speak English or Die, and maybe something by Sacred Reich (they need the money to take writing classes so they can email me more coherent angry letters trying to convince me they don’t suck now). And throw in Ludichrist’s Immaculate Deception (which has members of Nuclear Assault, Murphy’s Law, Agnostic Front and a few others pitching in for the classic “You Can’t Have Fun” and maybe another. For bands looking for “obscure” covers to impress people with, “Most People Are Dicks” “Green Eggs and Ham” [this and Anthrax’s “I’m the Man” were rap metal when the joke was still funny], and “Young, White and Well Behaved” are gems waiting to be unearthed) for good measure.
