A new project by two of indie rock’s brightest (Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina), channeling all of what they’ve learned into a new band. That just happens to rule.
Nothing original here. All of the songs rhyme a lot, and the vocals cling to the drum beat. They top off with “Hey There Delilah” to show their sensitive side.
I nervously held my breath before pushing play. Relief. The snyth is still there. The bounciness of their songs still makes my head bop along to the beat.
It ruptures the spleen to try and figure out just how something so kitschy, trite, regurgitated, unimaginative, calculatedly “overprecious” can be eaten up.
