The band (at this time, consisting of Professor Griff, Chuck D, Terminator X, the S1Ws, and Flavor Flav) was still getting its “sea legs,” so to speak.
Bill Zebub’s limp attempt to make a sadistic shocker film like I Spit On Your Grave (which sucked) or Last House On The Left (had some artistic merit).
Henry Rollins has mellowed. Shock & Awe, his new spoken word DVD, presents Rollins as a comedian, recognizing, and poking fun at, his human inadequacies.
Frenzied, black metal with a very polished sound that infuses neo-classical guitar lines in between the constant, drill-core drumming and screeching vocals.
This is an awesome, eclectic, mature record, and it’s clear that the band enjoys pushing their playing, writing, and arranging skills as far as they’ll go.
Grinding blast beats, melodic guitar riffs, screeching vocals, and tons of Gothic flare. The title says it all: Tried and true, no bullshit added black metal.
