High Defiance

Crown of Thorns – with High Defiance, Supahead, Stompbox at The Rat – Review

November 11, 1994

These guys were mean and hungry and their music was utterly viscous. The blood-thirsty dancers in attendance were disappointed only by their short set.

Supahead – with High Defiance, Crown of Thorns, Stompbox at The Rat – Review

November 1, 1994

I like this band already. Although there was little for them to feed off of, they managed to grind through a pretty giant-sounding set of songs.

Stompbox – with High Defiance, Crown of Thorns, Supahead at The Rat – Review

November 1, 1994

Big, mean, sharp, and are tighter and heavier than ever (not to mention louder). It’s always good to have them back, so catch them while it’s still so easy.

High Defiance – with Crown of Thorns, Supahead, Stompbox at The Rat – Review

Lots of hair and headbanging going on, but the drummer was really slammin’ and the guy scratching added a lot of tasteful tidbits to the songs.

High Defiance – Lessons From Hate – Review

April 1, 1994

Notorious for their three ring vocal assault. With all the tuned low and mean crunch chords, the samples and scratches skim like flat rocks across a lake.

High Defiance – with Creepshow Mary at The Rat – Review

December 1, 1993

The bassist is a funk madman accompanied by hip-hop beats and DJ scratches. The two guitarists duel like Maiden, chug like Metallica. All members sing/yell.

Creepshow Mary – with High Defiance at The Rat – Review

December 1, 1993

The singer had the presence of Anthony of the Chili Peppers and a signature rant/rap. Amazingly tight for a band so young, without a demo to their name.
