For Those Who Came Before Me – Fiction

For Those Who Came Before Me

by Doug Butler

I, too, yearn for
Crafted Falsehood
man above Nature
in rhythm
I crave designed force and
divine element
ebbing and flowing
I crave swirls of chaos
and confusion
because if time can be lost
(the master tamed)
Beyond-man Glory can escape man
can escape
the prison of the senses
And these self-imposed
bindings of lunacy
these brightly rusted
metal jags
these chains and crimes
that dangle and dance
about me
will perish in these tides
For,
My eyes are not Frost
my ears not Joyce
mine are senses
of fortified agitation
and with a crime of
intention only
in my heart
I see the past
as Opportunity
laced & littered
with those who came before me
