Candy Striper Death Orgy – Review

Candy Striper Death Orgy

by Scott Hefflon

I wanted this one for the name and logo. I’ve gotten plastered with various band members during summer binges on Hampton Beach. The band’s been around a while, so I doubt I can say anything that hasn’t already been said. Their tight, old-school thrash-til-death motif is refreshing compared to the peers that are trying to mature into more accessible “heavy alternative” styles. Candy Striper Death Orgy dug its claws in deeper and got meaner! They have the monumental plodding slow mosh and the double and triple time pacers. A few death roars and fun deathly gimmicks, but mostly they have the monster mosh madness in vein (not vain) of Kreator, Hallow’s Eve, Possessed (only tighter), and the humor of S.O.D.

Remember when mean and ugly were fine attributes in a musician? It spoke of music first and fashion photos secondary. While we didn’t print a photo, you can use your imagination: Big deathy beards, biker jackets, and concert shirts. They’re playing with Pro-Pain and Tree at Axis Dec. 19th, (but the magazine probably won’t be back by then), with Soul Zero (also in this issue), Strip Mined and Wargasm at the Industry Dec. 27th and with High Defiance (also in this issue), and Insult at the Causeway Jan. 26th. For a band that has not sold out, check out Candy Striper Death Orgy.
