Fig Dish – That’s What Love Songs Often Do – Review

Fig Dish

That’s What Love Songs Often Do (Atlas)

Teeming with anger, the opening tracks, “Bury Me,” “Weak and Mean,” and “Seeds,” snap at your ears from the moment you hit play. The sound that has gained the attention of Nina Gordon (lead singer of Veruca Salt), who extends vocal assistance on “Resistance is Futile,” as well as the quirky coupling of Lou Giordano (Hüsker Dü, Mission of Burma) and Tom Lord-Alge (Spandau Ballet and Letters to Cleo) to produce and mix the album. The name “Fig Dish” was the result of fisticuffs at a German-American restaurant during their early days of gigging. Luckily, the Bavarian translation of “fuck you” makes a great band name.
