Singer/bassist Denise Monahan used to flex her larynx for Cheesecake, but this is as far from Cheesecake as pickled herring. The sluggish and grinding music provides a moody backdrop for her voice, which sounds sweet and lovely one minute, angry and accusatory the next. Courtney Love/Hole comparisons will inevitably be made, but I’d say she sounds more like Lizzie Avondet of Piss Factory.
