1000 Mona Lisas – The EP – Review

1000 Mona Lisas

The EP (RCA)
by Jon Sarre

This ain’t pretty. 1000 Mona Lisas‘ six-song EP is mediocre oh-so trendy pop punk dreck fashioned by three L.A. itinerant musicians, who, aspiring for a career in rock, divined the winds of the music world to be blowin’ towards Punk Rock City (fastest growing city in the USA). That’s all you need if desperate major labels are throwin’ money at any hack band with the requisite bio and haircuts. Five years ago, 1000 Mona Lisas would have been a lipstick and spandex faux metal scam called Wyld Hairdeux, or somethin’ like that.

If you ever happen to come across this record (which incidentally contains a sure-to-be a smash hit cover of Alanis Morrisette’s “You Oughta Know,” (kinda like when the Lemonheads covered “Luka,” right?) do the smart thing, put it down. Buy a Minor Threat or Black Flag re-release instead.
