To their credit, Moonwater did finally win me over. To my credit, I kept listening after almost five minutes of total drivel before I started to get at the interesting stuff. A few whisperings in the background, a strong gust of wah-wah, and suddenly it becomes clear – oh, psychedelic rock like Mother Love Bone. O.K., now I get it. It took four songs to get there, but once there, “Give” has that love-groove thang that makes for a great stoner anthem. While they probably would’ve been a big hit in the late ’80s, trip rock is still a reputable sound and Moonwater does it well.
