The Trashwomen

Spend the Night With… (Estrus)
by Lex Marburger

They can’t really play, the production is horrible, they can’t sing, and they aren’t even that cute. God, I love The Trashwomen! This is surf, straight out of the garage, played fast and furious by babes who could break your legs just by squinting. The mix on Spend the Night With… is raw, like it was recorded in a basement and then had reverb dumped all over, like overturning a jar of molasses on your cat; the stuff gets everywhere. The bassist, Danielle “Lead Pedal” Pimm, claims that she plays 90% open strings so she won’t ruin her fingernail varnish, while Tina “Boom Boom” Lucchesi proudly announces that she only knows one beat, the Surf Beat complete with “no high-hat.” And as far as Elka “Kitten Kaboodle” Zolot goes, the icepick-dipped-in-honey sound of her guitar is only surpassed in razor blade aggression by her voice – the voice of a ’50s teenage brat, a girl who could kick the shit out of James Dean for being a wimp. Maybe if I could meet them… What am I saying? They’d undoubtedly beat me senseless and steal my car, after spending all my money buying drinks. Well, it might be worth it.
