Everdown – Straining – Review

Everdown

Straining (Tooth & Nail)
by Tim Creter

Remember that scene in Robocop when the guy blows up the building and loudly exclaims, “I like it!”? That’s what I said after listening to this ever-cool disc from Everdown. These guys play energetic, melodic hardcore decorated with movie samples that immediately makes your body move. The music is extremely tight, with guitars that sound like dueling Mack trucks and a drummer with at least three arms. Not a whole lot of info came with this one, as in nothing. I think they’re from the Boston area, because they’ve played with the likes of Sam Black Church and Cast Iron Hike. This band has talent to spare, and this release should widen their audience. There’re even a few extra songs at the end of track 11. If I’m not mistaken, these hidden tracks are making fun of mindless hardcore. On one of the songs, the singer intros, “This one’s called ‘Killer Instinct’ because I think I’ve got it.” This just goes to show that Everdown knows they’re no dopes, and they’ve got the real songs to prove it.
