What I thought was one of those tide-me-over EPs turns out to be one of the most black-hearted batteries of brutality to assault these ears in some time.
Side A is a boisterous number that reminds me of the Crumbsuckers. Side B is a bit slower but has a very catchy chorus that’ll leave you humming for days.
“Swing It Low” features sexy, sinewy, hypnotic song-speak by Morphine’s Mark Sandman set to drums and a repetitive one-note groove that is lazily haunting.
Full of back porch-sittin’, pink lemonade-guzzlin’, fly-swattin’, horse-trottin’, acoustic country ballads with trip-hop noises to remind us it’s the ’90s.
Call it Dinosaur Defuzzed. I feel kinda bad for ol’ J, having to watch former band mates rake in the kudos while Proto-slacker Number One is left in the lurch.
