Vampiros Lesbos – Sexadelic Dance Party – Review

Vampyros Lesbos

Sexadelic Dance Party (Motel)
by Lex Marburger

Y’know, I’ve always said that there’s only one type of music that really expresses the essence of fun and joy in this meager existence of ours, and that’s 1970’s Vampire Lesbian Soundtrack Music. And what does Motel Records give us? The summit of the genre, Vampyros Lesbos: Sexadelic Dance Party. These tracks were taken from two movies made by Jesus Franco, world renowned for making stupifyingly bad movies. But the music, wow, man… think Lalo Schiffrin on crack. A ’70s pseudo-porn funk groove, with crazy effects on top, like sitar, theremin, 13-part resurrection-harp, and a chorus with so much reverb it sounds like it was recorded in Carlsbad Caverns. Yes, yes… I’m beginning to see it now… this is how to bring dead nubile young women back to life! Get them dancing! Shake your undead ass and groove along to the awe-inspiring production, with organ swells, bizarre cross-fades, non-sequitur dialogue clips, and a horn section of Jericho who’re flying high. The movies may be blatantly exploitative, but music will never be the same after Rock ‘n’ Roll Sitar. Get your go-go boots and mini skirts, and don’t forget your garlic. The dance party of the dead is about to begin!
