You will like them or they’ll attack you. “We’ll make great Pets,” they said to Tori Amos and so she became executive producer of their debut album. Anything that Tori Amos touches is yummy-good, and this album is no different. But don’t expect them to be clones of Tori-dom. These are the type of Pets that you can’t control. They’re just haywire enough to trick you into believing that they aren’t. Lisa Papineau’s got a full-range voice and she’s prepared to use it on… you. “Lil’ boots” has her raging,”why is the world falling in on me?” “Hero Life” is about a “small apocalypse,” but that’s just to impress Tori. “Fatherland,” “I’ve Been a Gaylord” and “Calmate!” exemplify the band’s clean I-could-hang-out-to-this-for-hours-in-my-room sound. “Seed,” the most rockin’ of them all, makes me a crazy, mean doggie.
