Field Day – Big Wheels – Review

Field Day

Big Wheels (Cargo)
by Valerie Lambert

These guys like to call themselves punk rock, and they sound a little bit like Face to Face, a band they have toured with. Problem is, they sound like the weak tracks off a Face to Face album. They’ve got okay melodies, the lyrics aren’t bad, and there’s a good beat to most of this stuff, but it’s way too produced, too polished and smooth, and really not at all catchy. You can’t be pop-punk and not have catchy songs. It just doesn’t work that way. To be fair, the songs aren’t BAD. There’s potential in Field Day. Maybe by their next album they will have learned the secret to writing catchy, makes-you-want-to-sing-along songs. Right now what they play isn’t horrible melodic pop punk, but it’s not the best stuff out there either.
