Speedball – Drive Like Hell – Review

Speedball

Drive Like Hell (Energy)
by Chaz Thorndike

Four new songs and three live songs by a band that is definitely from Detroit Rock City. Grimy, gritty, and pumped up to let it rip on the drag strip (no, not the cross-dressing “exotic dancing” joint), Speedball play a brand of rock not often heard these days. Bare-bones, without all the pretension of minimalist artsiness. Stripped-down and raw, Speedball don’t write the most interesting songs, but they’re good to drive fast to. The last song is called “Ass, Gas, or Grass.” I just wanted to write that.
