Biofeedback – Incision – Review

Biofeedback

Incision
by Angela Dauthi

I know that it may seem strange talking about a Maryland industrial band, but just think, they’re close to DC, and when you’re trapped in (of all places) Savage, MD, what else are you gonna do? It turns out that Biofeedback plays a style that’s part Leather Strip, part Spahn Ranch, and part Ministry (albeit a small part). Their layers of samples and sequences are interesting. You can hear tiny things going on underneath the electronic crunch and drum bombast, which move the song after the main riff becomes typically boring (I should say that I’m not on a dance floor while this is playing. it’s 1:30 in the morning, I’ve just had almost an entire bottle of wine, and I’m sitting down. I certainly think that this tape is best during twilight, when the juices start pumping, but Lex wants this by 10:00 this morning, and I’ve still got things to do). The recording of their cassette, Incision, isn’t anywhere near perfect, with mixing problems and a general thinness throughout the entire tape, but it shows a promising start, and hopefully they know how to play out, ’cause this needs the support of a tour, to really push the stuff in our faces.
