24-7 Spyz – Heavy Metal Soul By The Pound – Review

24-7 Spyz

Heavy Metal Soul By The Pound (What Are)
by Tim Creter

If you’ve never heard this band, try to picture Shootyz Groove doing an all out heavy metal jam with Living Colour. 24-7 Spyz play some hard-hitting metal splashed with funk and ten tons of groove that cast all musical boundaries aside. Heavy Metal Soul by the Pound is the perfect name for this album, as it perfectly describes the music. Their first new album in four years, Spyz guitarist Jimi Hazel has taken control of the vocal duties, the song writing, mixing, and production. Man, is this guy talented. I find it interesting his name is only a few letters away from “Hendrix,” as he leads this steamroller of a trio through a mind-blowing experience. Original bass man Rick lays down the fat end, while new drummer Joel rips up the rhythm with percussionist Carlton Smith. My favorites are “Love and Peace” and “Burned.” Metal and soul, great production, superb musicianship, and nonstop good vibes await you on this 17-track opus. This should be played loud enough for everyone to enjoy.
