I’d’ve liked to’ve heard a bit o’ the tight-as-a-monkey’s-fist piccolo snare (á la The Specials) in “Monkey Boogie,” but it’s still a butt-wagging ska ditty.
Caveat emptor for Beasties fans, the show here belongs to Berry, Bosco and Hubel and the songs are pretty hardcore hard-luck, white trash psychobilly pieces.
Banco de Gaia (aka Toby Marks) easily melds disparate elements in a weightless environment, creating some of the more interesting electronica available.
While this self-titled release is a coaster, perhaps with a lot of work on taking their songs the distance, they might be able to open for someone good.
Crispen Hunt’s vocals (complete with angelic falsetto) to make the Longpigs a great band, but they also write the most powerful pop songs I’ve ever heard.
