Dissection – The Past is Alive – Review

Dissection

The Past is Alive (Necropolis)
by Scott Hefflon

It’s not so much that this particular Dissection record sucks, it’s just that as a “hand-picked” collection of early material showing the growth of the band, the flaws are inherent. While digitally remastered, most of the songs still sound like demo and 7″ material. Also, of course, when dredging up the past, you hear inklings of what you enjoy still in its embryonic stages. While kinda cool, it’s also rather frustrating. Good for die-hard fans, especially with demo, rehearsal tape, and “side project” material from Satanized, but missable archive filler otherwise.
