Frontier – Heater – Review

Frontier

Heater (Tug-O-War)
by Malcolm E

There’s nothing electro about these guys, but you wouldn’t know it. Frontier consists of guitar-bass-drums, and they do for trip hop what The Egg did for house. Throwing in a bit of Dub Narcotic Sound System and Pounder, and with the inevitable Albini at the board, Frontier creates slow bass grooves with tight, crisp drums plopped into a swirling mass of ambient feedback and pedal effects. The guitars never hit a chord, unless it’s through layered feedback. No strumming, no picking – rather, they coax sounds out of the guitar slowly and gradually. Innovative? Probably. Talented? Definitely.
