Groove Radio – Review

Groove Radio Presents: House

Oh, such guilty pleasures! To quote Todd Terry‘s “Something Goin’ On,” “I can feel it!” Half the fun of this music (aside, of course, from dancing vertically, horizontally, or bouncing around like a pinball in your car) is trying to peg the origin of the samples used. As a continuous groove, it’s also fun to try to figure out where one song ends and another begins without watching the track numbers. Various tracks have a cool way of fading in and out, much like old cassette tapes do. Rick Garcia updates “I Will Survive” with a little paranoia (or a typo) in “Somebody Knew.” As often as not, I don’t know the disco classics these songs are inspired by (nor the divas they sample), but that doesn’t limit the enjoyment, nor keep this head from swayin’ and this butt from wigglin’. Contributing to the house party are: David Gordon, Sandy B., Kevin Aviance (“Din Da Da” is a great vocal vs. drum duet with some jammin’ Hammond organ the likes of which classic rockheads’ve never heard), Da Mongaloids, Sneaker Pimps, Stretch ‘n’ Vern, Duke, Hooligans (with Risa), Gant, Ultra Nate, Giselle Jackson, Dub Sisterz, DJ Work, and Freestylers.
