The Vindictives – Leave Home – Review

The Vindictives

Leave Home (Liberation)
by Chaz Thorndike

The ever-prolific Vindictives release yet another album on yet another label. Leave Home is a Ramones tribute recorded in a single day back in ’94 (the overused phrase “back in the day” takes on new meaning when used in this case) and released in ’98. Why it took four years to release this is a good question, and not only one that I have no answer for, but one that I really don’t want an answer for. Suffice it to say, it’s out and the idea is better than the execution. Not that the obvious kitsch value isn’t there, ’cause it is. And not to say that I don’t like The Vindictives ever-present vocal snarl, omnipresent oohs and aahs, and ripping guitar work, I just think this record is more than unnecessary, it’s dumb.
