Home Grown – Act Your Age – Review

Home Grown

Act Your Age (Outpost)
by Scott Hefflon

Ever wonder where MxPx got their schtick? Me neither, but the answer is Home Grown. They’re fun, they’re fast, they incorporate ska, heavy chugging rhythms, and just enough of that SoCal punk sneer to make their almost too-perfect, harmony-laden pop completely addictive. With both a track on Punk Sucks and their debut on Liberation, Home Grown have also been on Burning Heart, not to mention such high profile comps as the Op Ivy tribute, Half Baked, and Ska Sucks. While Act Your Age reeks of major label money and radio-ready production, don’t let that overshadow the fact that Home Grown writes great punkpop you can bob your head and sing along to, chuckling along at how right on the lyrics are.
